How to Select the Ideal Camping Location

Going on a camping trip and spending time out in the woods is an excellent means of escaping the usual grind of work-eat-sleep. It allows you to enjoy nature in a way that most of us cannot do everyday.

What is the best way to pick the perfect camping spot?
Before looking for the ideal camp site, you must first find a campground that meets your needs. Fortunately, the Internet has made this task a lot easier and many campgrounds now have websites. You can check out the campsites through the website before actually going there, allowing you to make an educated decision about your choice of campground.
However, remember a campsite always appears slightly more glorified than it really is, much like menu-pictures in restaurants.

The first step in choosing your campsite is to decide on the type of camping you want to do. When a campground offers “primitive camping”, it sounds intriguing, but what does that actually mean?
When you visit a campground that’s labeled primitive, it’s critical to pack all of your essential supplies. This includes all shelter, gear, and any additional provisions. Deep in the wilderness is were these primitive campsites are located, you’ll be hard pressed to find showers, (running) water, electricity, or toilets.

At the other end of the spectrum, you’ll come across campgrounds that provide connections for water, sewage, and electricity – all with a glorious natural backdrop. You can even find spas at certain campgrounds!

Most campgrounds fall somewhere in between these two extremes. If you choose to camp in a private park you will probably find all amenities you desire. Many offer washers and dryers, shopping areas and arcades and they are glad to accommodate customers planning on an extended stay. The majority of private parks also offer bingo and other organized activities such as child-friendly games or competitions.

Fees for the Campground
Fees are usually higher at private parks as opposed to those charged at public camping facilities. State park campgrounds can have any level of amenities, from primitive tent campgrounds to near-luxury resorts. Some have electric hookups, showers, flushing toilets, swimming pools, guided excursions, playgrounds, etc.
State and national forest parks are normally fairly basic. Fire rings, pit toilets and picnic tables will most likely be found here. Thankfully, these campgrounds are very easy to afford. They may be absolutely free, or cost a mere few dollars a day.

Make reservations early with favorable weather.
Note that during nice weather people tend to settle in early. To get the best spot you must arrive early and have a bit of luck.
Do you want a site near the pool and playground? That will be a wonderful convenience for the children but at the same time it could be a noisy location with a lot of foot traffic to contend with. The same can be said for locations close to restroom and shower facilities. Expect to have a constant stream of pedestrians outside your tent.

Do you want a quiet, isolated setting or do you prefer to be in the midst of the hustle-bustle? Camping offers something unique for all people. There’s no doubt you can find the perfect one to suit your family’s needs.
